Imagine having to defend a country's position on an issue you personally disagree with. That's what makes Model United Nations so fascinating to me: every argument demands research, perspective, and the ability to think beyond your own beliefs.
At YSV Model United Nations, I helped prepare the next generation of delegates by writing a MUN Training Handbook and running weekly mock conferences for 30+ members. I developed research materials for a two-day UN Environment Programme simulation and chaired the UN Human Rights Council committee on protecting journalists in active conflict zones. Behind every debate were hours of studying international policies, anticipating opposing arguments, and helping delegates turn competing interests into workable resolutions.

35 delegates, 05 observers, and 03 days of negotiations. Sitting at the front of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) committee, I had to keep debates moving while making sure every country had a chance to be heard. It was fascinating to watch delegates with competing interests challenge one another, negotiate, and gradually turn their arguments into proposals.
As Chairman of DEWEY MUN, I led a 10-member team in developing a Study Guide and preparing materials for two UN simulation conferences. During the three-day UNODA conference, I moderated discussions and approved 25+ draft resolutions reflecting different countries' approaches to international security.

My favorite moments weren't when everyone agreed, but when delegates found a way to work together despite their disagreements. It reminded me that leadership sometimes means speaking less and creating room for others to be heard.
